The York White Rose Wanderers Legacy Member Program was created to recognize, celebrate, and preserve the contributions of our longtime members: the individuals who built this club step by step, mile by mile.
For decades, our Legacy Members have organized walks, welcomed newcomers, volunteered countless hours, and modeled what it means to walk for health, friendship, and community. This program ensures that their stories, experience, and leadership remain at the heart of YWRW as we look toward the future.
As YWRW continues to evolve, welcoming new walkers, expanding outreach, and refreshing our brand, it is important that we do not lose sight of where we started. The Legacy Member Program is not about replacing traditions; it is about honoring them while ensuring the club remains strong for future generations.
This program gives longtime members a visible and meaningful role in shaping the club’s future while celebrating the past they helped create.
Legacy Members may choose to participate in one or more of the following ways:
Recognition & Spotlights
Featured stories in newsletters, on the website, or on social media highlighting your walking journey and memories.
Mentorship & Welcome Support
Serving as informal ambassadors to welcome new walkers and help them feel at home.
Historical Preservation
Sharing photos, stories, and milestones that help document YWRW’s history.
Advisory Voice
Offering insight and perspective as the club grows, especially during milestone moments like America’s Walking Club’s 50th Anniversary in 2026.
There is no requirement to “do more” than you wish. This program honors contribution, not obligation.
Walking has always been about more than distance. It is about connection, consistency, and community. The Legacy Member Program ensures that the values YWRW was built on, friendship, inclusivity, and shared experience, continue to guide us forward.
As we celebrate milestones and welcome new walkers, our Legacy Members remind us that every strong future is built on a meaningful past.
Legacy Membership is open to:
Longtime YWRW members
Members who have volunteered, led walks, or served on the Board
Walkers who have been part of AVA and the YWRW community for many years
Participation is optional and designed to be flexible, respectful, and inclusive.
If you are interested in being part of the Legacy Member Program, or simply want to learn more, we invite you to reach out at info@ywrw.org or watch for upcoming opportunities to participate.
Together, we continue Creating Community, One Step at a Time.
